Optical Drive Doesn’t Read CD/DVD Troubleshooting

Optical drive doesn’t read or recognize any CD/DVD. Did you encountered this problem? If yes, follow the rest of my post I can give you the possible solution.

Problem Possible to encounters

  • You tried to insert a lot of  original CD/DVD and it takes a lot of time before optical drive can open the CD/DVD, but every CD/DVD was opened , No data appears. When you try to open you CD  to other Optical Drive, everything works fine.
  • You tried to insert a lot of original and no scratches CD/DVD on your Optical Drive, but when you try to open the CD/DVD to your Optical Drive, CD/DVD is automatically ejecting.
  • No optical drive showing in “My Computer “ menu, but appearing on BIOS System.

Possible Solution

  • The last encountered ( No optical drive showing in My Computer but appearing on BIOS system) problem was caused by virus or system corruption. The first things you need to do is system restore, all Windows based system have their own system restore application to back you system earlier time, to the date your PC was working properly. If you don’t know where you can find that, here the instruction. Click START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES> SYSTEM TOOLS>SYSTEM RESTORE. The next things you need to do is updates the firmware of your optical drive and can download it direct to their respective sites of the model of your PC/ Laptop (for branded) or to the sites of the model of your optical drive. And lastly, you need to reformat or reprogram you Windows System.
  • Under the remaining two encountered problems above, first , try to reprogram or reformat you Windows System. If Operating System (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 etc.) CD/DVD was properly installed , well it’s good because the only problem is software. But if not, you need to reassemble or realign your optical drive. If you have no knowledge how to do that, you need a computer technician. 90% of the optical drive doesn’t read any CD/DVD that I encountered, was repaired by reassemble or realign the drive. Especially for optical drive less than a year
  • Another tips is , try to replace you cable that connect to Motherboard-Optical Drive (IDE, SATA etc).
